gerald-thurston-lightolier-white-table-lamp-1960s
Gerald Thurston for Lightolier White Table Lamp, c. 1986

A sculptural all-white table lamp designed by Gerald Thurston for Lightolier, this example is specifically dated to 1986 by the original dating sticker retained on the lamp.

The lamp pairs a clean architectural silhouette with a restrained monochromatic finish, allowing the layered construction and proportions to take precedence. A white metal base and stem support the broad removable shade, while the internal diffuser softens the light and creates an even, warm glow when illuminated.

Although Thurston is best known for his influential postwar work for Lightolier, this lamp should be understood as a later production example rather than a 1960s piece. Its 1986 date places it within the continuation of Lightolier's modernist design language into the 1980s, making the original date sticker particularly important to the object's documentation.

Details

Designer: Gerald Thurston
Manufacturer: Lightolier
Origin: United States
Date: 1986
Period: 1980s / Late Modern
Materials: Painted metal, plastic / acrylic diffuser
Colour: White
Power Source: Corded electric
Bulb: Standard North American socket
Shade: Removable shade with internal diffuser

Condition

Excellent vintage condition with very minor age-appropriate wear.
